It was 2005 and, as a result of the circumstances and events that were happening at the time, I had the dream of creating a new business project where I could combine knowledge and innovation. 

Above all, it would be a company with a humanist, creative and uplifting spirit at its core. A company with its own personality, more solid and stronger than just a collection of individuals.

We have been innovating since 2005 and have used the slogan as our guiding phrase, which has motivated us on a daily basis:
“The Future is Today.”. In other words, we wanted to be a company that brings the future into the present. We created revolutionary and innovative solutions for the time, anticipating some features that we only imagined would be available in the future, closing the gap between very advanced solutions and the present time.

Initially, it started out as a company dedicated to distributing solutions for the environment and well-being, creating an Industrial Division with antimicrobial products and water treatment. However, with the growth of the Pharmaceutical Division, the Industrial Division was eventually deactivated.

1st generic Buprenorphine in Portugal (Buprenorphine Goldfarma)

We were pioneers in bringing added value to this market segment (opioid substitution therapy), offering a cheaper alternative to the reference treatment.

New food supplements range

This year was also marked by the launch of the ophthalmology line, consisting of an artificial tear with dexpanthenol (Keratostill) and HPMC (Gel4000).

Our first device for Canaloplasty surgery in Portugal

We launched the first surgical technique in ophthalmology - the introduction of the Canaloplasty surgical technique in Portugal and introduced the first MIGS (iStent) - implants for glaucoma treatment.

Consolidation of the Glaucoma Surgical Area

In the year that the company moved its facilities to the capital (Lisbon), we consolidated our operations and offer in the Glaucoma and Ocular Surface Surgical Areas.

Launch of the Specialised Dry Eye Treatment Centre concept

We started a new concept of ‘Specialised Dry Eye Treatment Centre’, using the E-Eye equipment for Pulsed Light treatments.

New range of preservative-free medicines

To ensure greater safety and efficacy in the treatment of dry eye, Goldfarma has introduced to the market its new references in terms of preservative-free medicines, the eye drops Levoftal (Levofloxacin hemihydrate) and Dexavit (Dexamethasone phosphate).

Expansion of dry eye treatment solutions - with Ativa and Idra equipments

In the Ativa case, these new device make it possible to carry out a treatment with heating and microvibration technology for eyelid massage and, in the Idra case, an integrated system for analysing the ocular surface.

The company has moved its premises to the municipality of Oeiras.

First use of iTrack™ Advance in Canaloplasty surgeries

New microcatheter kit for canaloplasty, with facilitator injector for Ab-interno surgeries, with iTrack™ Advance administration system.

Partnership with NovaSight, introduction of the first amblyopia and strabismus treatment device in Portugal

We have brought to Portugal the first technological device for the digital treatment of amblyopia and strabismus, an alternative to the use of occlusive dressings, the CureSight™.

The year was 2005, and, as a result of the circumstances of, and the events that, at the time, it was taking place, I have had the dream of starting a new business project, I combine knowledge and innovation. It would, above all, a company that he had created a distinctive humanistic, creative and from the elevation of the holy spirit. A company that has a personality of its own, which is more robust and stronger than just a collection of individuals.

We have been innovating since 2005 and have used the slogan ‘The Future is Today’ as our guiding phrase, which has motivated us on a daily basis. In other words, we wanted to be a company that brings the future into the present. We created revolutionary and innovative solutions for the time, anticipating some features that we only imagined would be available in the future, closing the gap between very advanced solutions and the present time.

So we began a journey that took us down many challenging paths, starting with genetics, moving on to addiction treatments and, later, specialising in ophthalmology and eye health.

We have always aimed to work with the best partners so that together we can offer solutions that are more innovative, less invasive, easier to administer and more patient-friendly. And this has always happened with the broad and close involvement of healthcare professionals, who have never tired of challenging us.

The name chosen - Goldfarma - symbolising gold, which signifies excellence and prestige, portrays the company's image. A benchmark company in medicines, medical devices, state-of-the-art equipment and a number of other health products.

Today, looking back on 20 years, I see with great pride that we are in a process of continuous improvement aimed at preparing Goldfarma for the next 20 years.
